Halloween!!!

So what did I do on Halloween. I spent my Halloween night working on my Engineering Geology homework. I was thinking about giving out candy but when I went to buy some, candy was pretty expensive so I decided not to give any out. Went to a Halloween party on Friday last week so today I just took time to do some homework.

Writing Assignment #1

The image I chose was an image of a dog giving a piggyback ride to a koala. The image looks like it is an old photo taken out of the photo album and scanned for the Internet. The reason I chose this image is because of the subject matter. I really like dogs and koala’s to me are pretty cool and also are not easy to come by let alone having one on the back of a dog. The subject of the picture is basically centered in the photo so it is closed frame but it goes well with the background of the photo with the plants in the back. The photo is pretty well balanced with nothing out weighing anything giving the image symmetrical balance. There is also an alternative point of view to the image considering the koala is with a dog in an area that doesn’t really seem fit for either the koala and the dog. I don’t really know if the image was staged or not but a photo like that is one you can look at on a gloomy day and feel happy just looking at it after.

Assignment #2 ll Elexis Color Critique

From top to bottom photo

Photo #1
Due to the lower aperture there is a slight blur to the building in the background, but a general focus on the people in the front of the photo. There is nothing really focused centered in the photo so a rule of thirds is correct. I feel like there is more weight on the left side of the photo rather than the right side making me more drawn to looking to the left of the photo. As for color, not too many colors stand out except for the color of shirts of the people like orange and red.

Photo #2
The photo has an alternate point of view of the orange cone compared to the cars in the background. By taking the picture low and close, the cone looks larger than the cars when in reality it isn't. One thing that caught my eye with color is the Texas flag in the background in the truck. I see the use of rule of thirds in the photo with the cone on 1/3 of the photo left and the truck with the flags 1/3 of the photo from the right.

Photo #3
The color of the flowers in the photo catches my eye right away. The focus is on the flowers making the leaves in the background blur due to a low aperture. When looking at the photo my eye goes from the small white flowers on the right to the left of the photo where the pink flowers end. I feel like the picture could have been better if there was less space on the right and the flower took up most of the picture. The photo is a closed frame due to how close the flower was taken.

Photo #4
The first thing that caught my eye when I looked at this photo was not the person standing on the roof but the color of the horizon due to the sun going down in the background. The photo to me seems symmetrical. The subject of the photo offers an alternate point of view because he seems bigger than the cars in the parking lot below. The color of the shorts stands out from the rest of the colors in the photo. When zoomed into the photo there is a slight blur.

Photo #5
In this photo, the reserved logo is taking at an angle making the letters at the end of the word seem bigger than the letters in the beginning of the word showing an alternate point of view. By taking the photo at an angle the fire lane looks like it could be going on forever and your not really sure if the cars are parked forever either. There is a vertical format with the reserved logos and the fire lane spanning the image from top to bottom.

Photo #6
The color in the flowers is the first thing I noticed when looking at this photo. You can tell that the focus in mainly on the flowers because of focus being blurred on the leaves surrounding the flower. The image is symmetrically balanced, the weight of the photo is balanced. The picture can be a closed frame because of how much space in the picture is taken by the flower showing it may have been taken close up. When looking at this picture I go from the random yellow flower at the bottom to the ending of pink flowers to the sky at the top of the photo.

Photo #7
First thing that my eye is the butterfly moving on the right side of the photo giving you a sense of movement. The color of the butterfly sort of matches with the color of the flowers both being an orange yellow kind of color. The is a rule of thirds with one half of the flowers being on 1/3 left of the photo and the other half of the flowers with the butterfly being 1/3 right of the photo. There is kind of a blur in the background where the butterfly is but that may be due to the movement of the butterfly and there may have been a wind blowing too.

Photo #8
I can see movement right away of the flag in the photo. By taking the photo at an angle instead of straight symmetrical with the flag you can see clearly the movement of the flag due to the wind. The photo seems to be kind of blurry and the flag on the left seems out of place, but keeps the photo balanced. The color of the sky is not blue but has a yellow-orange feel to it. There is an atmospheric perspective due to maybe the sun setting.

Photo #9
The flowers have a nice pink color to them and I like that the picture was taking at an angle from above rather than straight on. There is horizontal format with the bunch of flowers spanning from the left to the right of the image. If the top of the photo was cut off and the picture was just flowers it would seem like they were never ending, but with the top you can see where they end. The picture is closed frame with the flowers taking up most of the image. There is also an alternate point of view making the flowers look bigger than the buildings and the fence in the background.

Photo #10
I like how the background underneath the flowers is kind of half rocks and half I guess brush making the image symmetrically balanced. The picture is not too focused on the flowers but in the background making the color of the flowers stand out more with the background. The two flowers sort of take a vertical format in the image going from top to bottom. The lines on the rocks in the background make converging lines with each other.
